Pueblo, CO — A significant winter storm is poised to hit southern Colorado this weekend, bringing heavy snow and potential travel disruptions across the region. Beginning Friday afternoon, snowfall is expected to intensify, with the San Juan Mountains forecasted to receive the heaviest accumulation. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for areas above 8,000 feet, urging residents and travelers to take precautions ahead of hazardous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the snow is expected to start midday Friday and continue through Sunday morning. Roadways like US-160 and US-550, which cut through mountainous terrain, are expected to be especially dangerous due to snow accumulation and potential whiteout conditions. Travelers are advised to monitor weather updates and consider delaying travel plans unless absolutely necessary.

The storm will bring an initial period of rain before transitioning to snow by late Friday evening. In the lower elevations around Pueblo, snow will be lighter, but roads could still become slick with freezing rain and snow mix, particularly into Saturday morning.

As of Thursday, temperatures in Pueblo remain warm, with a high of 77°F today, but conditions will deteriorate Friday as a cold front pushes in, dropping temperatures to a high of 69°F. By Saturday, highs will reach only the low 40s, with a 70% chance of showers. Residents should prepare for disruptions in power and avoid unnecessary travel over the weekend.
