Fort Worth, TX – Texans are facing a sweltering day with record-breaking heat and significant fire risks due to dry conditions and low humidity levels. With temperatures soaring well over 100 degrees in parts of North Texas, residents are urged to take immediate precautions to stay safe in the extreme heat and avoid actions that could spark fires.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth, temperatures will reach up to 108 degrees in areas like Wichita Falls, while Dallas and Fort Worth can expect highs around 105 degrees. The combination of intense heat, dry vegetation, and afternoon wind gusts of up to 25 mph has elevated fire danger to critical levels. Officials recommend avoiding outdoor burning and taking extra precautions on roadsides to prevent accidental fires.
Residents should stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities, particularly during peak afternoon hours when temperatures will be most intense. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is advised to help cope with the heat, and frequent breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned spaces are essential. The NWS also cautions against leaving pets or children unattended in vehicles as temperatures rise rapidly, posing severe health risks.
Looking ahead, relief is on the horizon as a cold front is expected to sweep through overnight Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures to the region. By Wednesday, highs will drop to around 73 degrees in Fort Worth, with similar cooling trends in Sherman and Denison.
