Grand Rapids, MI – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Western Michigan, from Friday morning through Friday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids warns of critical fire conditions due to strong winds and low humidity.
According to the NWS, southwest winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph. Temperatures will climb into the mid-to-upper 70s, while relative humidity may drop as low as 35%. These conditions increase the likelihood of rapid fire spread.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has burn restrictions likely in place. Residents are urged to visit their website or call the burn permit hotline for updated information.
Precautionary measures are recommended, including avoiding outdoor burning and any activities that could spark a fire. The NWS advises residents to stay updated, as a Red Flag Warning could be issued if conditions worsen.
