Normal, IL – Illinois State University Police have closed an investigation into an August 24 assault near the Bone Student Center. The victim alleged the attackers used homophobic slurs, leading police to open a hate crime investigation.
According to ISUPD, detectives conducted eight interviews, reviewed campus surveillance, and canvassed nearby businesses. Despite these efforts, no suspects matching the victim’s description were found.
Though the case is closed, authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact Detective Matthew Hice at 309-438-8631.
Students can also access counseling services through the university, and faculty can reach out to the Employee Assistance Program for support.
