Cedar Lake, IN: Student Cyclist Hit by SUV at Busy Intersection

Cedar Lake, IN – A 17-year-old local girl was injured Thursday when her electric bicycle was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Beacon Pointe Lane and Alexandria Lane. The accident occurred near Hanover High School, where she is a student.

According to the Cedar Lake Police Department, the teen failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. A 24-year-old woman driving a 2019 Honda SUV struck the teen and her bicycle. The driver was able to stop quickly after the impact.

The 17-year-old did not remember the accident but was conscious and alert. She suffered no severe injuries but was taken to Franciscan Health Crown Point for evaluation.

Police officers remind cyclists to always follow traffic laws, ride on the correct side of the road, and wear helmets. They are grateful the teen avoided serious harm.
