Nebraska’s National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a frost alert for areas including Valley, Greeley, Sherman, and Dawson counties, where temperatures may dip below 38°F overnight. Gardeners and farmers are advised to take precautions, as the region is expected to experience patchy frost early Friday morning. This comes as temperatures continue to drop, impacting the growing season.
According to the NWS office in Hastings, the latest forecast models predict increasing chances of frost formation as lows reach the mid-30s by early Friday. Residents along Route 30 in Dawson County are urged to cover sensitive plants and bring potted vegetation indoors to avoid damage. Winds will remain light, but the stillness could intensify frost accumulation.
Temperatures will rise slightly by Friday afternoon, with highs near 75°F under clear skies. The weekend will bring warmer weather, with highs nearing 90°F by Saturday. This warming trend is expected to continue into next week, with daytime highs around 77-80°F. Despite the warmer days ahead, the possibility of another frost next week remains uncertain, and residents should stay updated on local forecasts.
For now, locals should monitor temperatures closely and be prepared for another potential frost advisory. Protective measures should be taken this evening and Friday morning to safeguard outdoor plants.
