Wadsworth, IL – A hit-and-run accident in Wadsworth on Monday night resulted in the tragic death of a horse. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 40800 block of North Delaney Road at approximately 9:10 p.m. Deputies arrived to find several individuals tending to the severely injured animal.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a large vehicle, likely a pickup truck, struck the horse as it walked in the northbound lane of Delaney Road. The driver did not stop at the scene. It remains unclear if anyone was riding the horse or if it escaped from a nearby ranch.
Deputies deployed drones and canine teams to search for a possible injured rider but found no one. Authorities checked local ranches to locate the horse’s owner but were unsuccessful.
A veterinarian was called to the scene and determined that the only humane option was to euthanize the horse due to its extensive injuries.
