Chicago, IL – Gasoline prices across Illinois continue to fall, providing relief for drivers ahead of the Labor Day weekend. The average price of a gallon of gas in Illinois now stands at $3.68, according to AAA Illinois. This marks a decrease of 36 cents compared to a month ago.
Effingham County currently offers the lowest gas prices in the state at $3.04 per gallon. On the other hand, Cook County drivers face the highest prices, with gas averaging $3.93 per gallon. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.35.
The lower fuel prices are expected to boost travel plans for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. With more affordable gas, residents across the state are likely to take advantage of the long weekend for road trips and other travel plans.
According to AAA, this trend of decreasing prices could continue if market conditions remain stable. However, travelers should still plan ahead and fill up early to avoid any potential price spikes as the holiday approaches.
