Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is set to experience soaring temperatures this week, with the most intense heat arriving on Tuesday. The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord has issued warnings for heat indices reaching the 90s across much of the region, with some areas along and south of M-72 potentially feeling like 100 degrees or more.

According to the NWS, the combination of high temperatures and humidity will create hazardous conditions, particularly for those sensitive to heat. Tuesday will see the highest temperatures, with maximum apparent temperatures expected to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. The humidity will push these temperatures to feel significantly hotter, approaching or exceeding 100 degrees in some areas.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Air-conditioned environments are recommended, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

The rest of the week will see a gradual cooling. Wednesday’s temperatures are forecast to drop into the 70s, providing some relief from the heat. The cooling trend continues into Thursday and Friday, with highs in the mid-70s. Rain showers are also expected midweek, potentially bringing some additional relief.
