Springfield, MO – Missouri is bracing for an intense heatwave as temperatures rise into the 90s, with heat index values expected to reach between 100 and 105 degrees. The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a heat advisory for southeast Kansas and portions of southwest and west-central Missouri from noon to 9 p.m. today.

Athletes, especially those participating in fall sports, are urged to take extra precautions. Heat and humidity pose significant threats, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Staying hydrated and taking regular breaks in the shade are crucial steps in preventing heat-related illnesses. The National Weather Service advises all residents to drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and refrain from strenuous activities during peak heat hours.

According to the forecast, the rest of the weekend and the start of next week will remain dry, with temperatures continuing to soar. Low-end rain chances are expected to return on Thursday, offering some relief.

Residents are reminded never to leave children or pets in vehicles, as temperatures inside can quickly become deadly. Stay updated with local weather reports and follow safety guidelines to protect yourself during this extreme heatwave.
