Aurora, IL – A midday fire on South Lake Street displaced seven residents from their apartment building. The blaze, reported around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, prompted a large emergency response.
Aurora Fire Department dispatchers received multiple calls, leading to the response by Engine Company 7. When firefighters arrived, they discovered smoke billowing from the attic of a three-story apartment building. The fire quickly escalated, prompting a second and later a third alarm.
Montgomery Fire Protection District, along with several Aurora units, assisted at the scene. Crews deployed hoses to the second floor, working to contain the flames. Firefighters focused on ensuring all residents evacuated safely. The fire spread from the second floor to the attic, complicating firefighting efforts.
The situation required support from Naperville and North Aurora Fire Departments. Fortunately, there were no injuries. However, the fire displaced seven residents, who are now seeking temporary housing. The fire remains under investigation.
