Portland, OR – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for potential thunderstorms in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington on Saturday. The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the risk for severe weather along and east of the I-5 corridor to the Cascades, with storm chances ranging from 20% to 60%.
According to the NWS, the most likely timing for these storms is Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night. Potential impacts include debris flows over 2024 burn areas, localized urban flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, frequent lightning, damaging hail, and gusty winds capable of knocking down trees and power lines.
In Portland, there’s a 55% chance of thunderstorms with temperatures peaking at 84°F. The threat diminishes by Sunday as conditions clear up, with a high of 78°F. The following days will see partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s, providing some relief from the weekend’s volatile weather. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for potential disruptions.
