St. Charles, IL – A Chicago man may spend the rest of his life in prison after a Kane County jury found him guilty of multiple felonies related to a 2022 shooting that left a man paralyzed. Byron Frazier, 35, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence, and being an armed habitual criminal.

The incident occurred on August 18, 2022, when the victim, Jonathan Chatman, stopped at a Mobil gas station in Aurora and encountered Frazier. After a brief exchange, Frazier retrieved a handgun from his girlfriend’s vehicle and shot Chatman. The victim was later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was treated for life-altering injuries.

Frazier was apprehended by Illinois State Police after a brief foot chase, during which he discarded a bag containing cocaine. He has remained in custody at the Kane County jail since his arrest.

Frazier’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 16, when he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.
