Middletown, DE – Delaware State Police have identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred near Middletown on Saturday. Edward Finnegan, 83, of Wilmington, Delaware, was pronounced dead at an area hospital following the crash on August 10, 2024.
The accident took place around 4:56 p.m. on Summit Bridge Road, near the intersection of Red Lion Road. A Ford Explorer, driven by a 25-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, was traveling northbound when it collided with a Ford Edge turning left into Red Lion Road. The Edge was operated by a 66-year-old man from Media, Pennsylvania. The collision resulted in the Explorer striking the passenger side of the Edge.
According to the Delaware State Police, Finnegan was one of the passengers in the Edge. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other occupants, including two women from Media, Pennsylvania, and another from Wilmington, sustained various injuries but are expected to survive.
The road was closed for approximately five hours as the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene. Authorities are continuing to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
