Tulsa, OK – A heat advisory has been issued for parts of eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas, effective from 1 PM to 9 PM on Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa warns that a combination of high temperatures and humidity will push the heat index to dangerous levels, potentially reaching up to 109°F.
According to the NWS, this heat advisory covers areas including Tulsa, Muskogee, Fort Smith, and McAlester. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned environments, and avoid prolonged outdoor activities. Heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke, are possible for those exposed to the extreme temperatures.
The forecast for the rest of the week shows little relief. High temperatures are expected to linger in the upper 90s, with the heat index approaching 100°F through Sunday. Wednesday through Saturday will see highs of 98-99°F, and Sunday could reach 97°F. With minimal cloud cover and high humidity, conditions will remain oppressive.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat.
