Montana – A volatile weather pattern is set to sweep through Montana, starting with thunderstorms and high winds on Tuesday, followed by a significant warm-up later in the week. Billings and surrounding areas are expected to experience gusty winds of 40-50 mph, particularly in the afternoon and evening. These storms pose a risk of localized damage and disruptions, as the winds may be strong enough to knock down trees and power lines.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, temperatures are expected to soar after the storm system passes. Starting Thursday, highs will steadily climb, with Friday and Saturday forecasted to reach a scorching 103°F in Billings. Other areas such as Miles City, Livingston, and Sheridan will also see temperatures nearing or exceeding the 100°F mark.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat, including staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. With such high temperatures, there is also an increased risk of heat-related illnesses. The NWS reminds everyone not to leave children or pets in vehicles, as temperatures can rise dangerously fast.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, a slight relief is in store, with temperatures expected to cool down to the mid-80s and low-90s. However, the heatwave’s intensity and duration will make this one of the hottest stretches Montana has seen this summer.
