Boise, ID – Idahoans might witness a rare celestial event as the Northern Lights are forecasted to be visible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Increased geomagnetic activity could extend the aurora borealis as far south as Idaho.
According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, the geomagnetic storm index is expected to reach Kp levels of 6-7, significantly increasing the likelihood of aurora visibility. The prime viewing times are predicted to be between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Mountain Time, provided the skies are clear.
The aurora borealis, known for its vibrant green, pink, and red lights, occurs when solar particles collide with Earth’s magnetic field. For the best viewing experience, residents should find dark, open areas away from city lights. Keeping up with local weather forecasts for cloud cover and using real-time aurora activity trackers will enhance the chances of seeing this spectacular display.
