Wichita, KS – Kansas residents should prepare for a mix of severe heat and storm chances in the coming days. The National Weather Service in Wichita reports that southeast Kansas could see a few showers and storms today, with further storm chances across north-central Kansas this evening.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerous heat will arrive next week, with hit-or-miss storms expected throughout the region. Temperatures are forecasted to soar, with highs ranging from 88 to 95 degrees today, and increasing to between 92 and 108 degrees by mid-week.
By Monday and Tuesday, heat indices across the state are expected to approach 110 degrees, particularly in areas like Salina, Topeka, and Wichita, which could see temperatures as high as 112 degrees. Storm chances will mainly affect northern and eastern Kansas, continuing through Thursday, with potential heat indices maintaining near 110 degrees.
The forecast indicates that Monday and Tuesday will see the highest heat indices, with Hutchinson and Emporia expected to experience 111 degrees. The dangerous heat will persist through Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures remaining above 100 degrees across much of the state.
