Albany, NY – Central New York is set to experience severe weather conditions this afternoon and evening, with a forecast that includes both scattered thunderstorms and extreme heat.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Albany, thunderstorms are expected to develop between 3 PM and 8 PM today. These storms may become severe, bringing primary threats of damaging winds and heavy rainfall. The NWS warns that downed trees and power lines are likely, and there is a potential for a few tornadoes. The area of highest risk includes regions from west to east, with specific warnings issued for towns such as Utica, Syracuse, and Albany.

In addition to the severe storm threat, a heat advisory is in effect until 8 PM for most valley areas. High temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 80s and lower 90s, with heat index values climbing as high as 95 degrees in some locations. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and seek air-conditioned environments whenever possible.
