Bradley, IL – A large chemical and motor oil spill on IL Route 50 has led to road closures and at least one accident Friday afternoon. The incident, which occurred between Brookmont Avenue and I-57, has resulted in extremely poor road conditions, prompting emergency services to respond swiftly.
According to the Bradley Fire Department, the spill necessitated the deployment of MABAS 7 Hazmat teams 7 and 7A. Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation are currently en route to the scene to sand the roadway and mitigate the hazardous conditions. Command officials have decided to shut down the affected section of IL Route 50 to ensure public safety and manage the cleanup process effectively.
Following the spill, a motorcycle crash was reported, although the extent of injuries remains unknown at this time. The hazardous road conditions caused by the oil slick have made travel treacherous, leading authorities to issue a strong advisory for motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
