Bourbonnais, IL – Residents of Bourbonnais will soon need a permit to hold garage sales, following a new ordinance passed by the village board on Monday. The ordinance aims to regulate the number and frequency of garage sales within the village, limiting each household to three sales per year with no more than one sale per month.

According to village officials, the first permit for a garage sale will be free. However, subsequent permits will cost $5 each. This new system will allow the village to monitor and control the frequency of garage sales, addressing issues of some residents turning their properties into continuous summer markets.

Village officials explained that the ordinance was necessary due to complaints about certain homes operating like flea markets. Some residents were purchasing products online and reselling them from their yards, which caused disturbances in residential neighborhoods.
