Munster, IN – The Humane Indiana Wildlife center in Northern Indiana has reported a record-breaking intake of over 350 orphaned animals in just the last week, prompting the cancellation of their 3rd Annual Bird of Prey Jamboree.
The admission rate of young wildlife, predominantly between 1 to 6 weeks old, marks a 44% increase over previous years, overwhelming the facility’s resources.
According to Nicole Harmon, Director of Humane Indiana Wildlife, the influx has stretched the center’s capabilities to their limits, necessitating the decision to prioritize animal care over the upcoming fundraising event.
The Jamboree, previously a significant source of funding for the center, had been sold out for the past two years. Despite this setback, the organization remains hopeful, with additional staff and interns expected to join in the coming weeks to manage the unprecedented situation. The center continues to appeal for public support and donations to sustain their efforts in wildlife care.
