Valparaiso, IN – Residents in Northwest Indiana are facing a wet and windy forecast as periods of rain showers are expected to continue through Friday.

The National Weather Service has reported additional rainfall amounts ranging from half an inch to an inch, predominantly occurring today. This ongoing downpour is anticipated to cause a significant rise in water levels across local creeks, streams, and rivers, heightening the risk of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. A Flood Watch remains in effect for much of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Community members are urged to stay updated via weather.gov/iwx for the latest on the Flood Watch. Furthermore, the region is preparing for windy conditions today and into the night, with forecasters predicting the strongest wind gusts, reaching 35 to 45 mph, on Friday. Residents are advised to prepare for potential impacts, including the risk of flooding and the challenges posed by strong winds.
