Chesterton, IN – A resident was allegedly defrauded of $10,000 through a credit card hack, facing a closed investigation by Discover without finding any fraud.

According to the Chesterton Police Department (CPD), on January 30, the victim reported receiving text messages on January 16, which he reportedly checked 30 minutes later, revealing a changed password and a completed $10,000 wire transfer on his Discover Card account.

The resident, who claimed not to have initiated the transfer, reportedly contacted the card carrier immediately. Discover confirmed the transaction and started an investigation. After several days and follow-ups, the resident received a letter from Discover, dated January 18, stating the investigation was closed without finding fraud evidence.

Following CPD’s advice, the resident reported the incident to the police, leading to a reopened investigation by Discover. CPD has forwarded the case to the Investigations Division and provided an incident number to the resident for further communication with Discover.
