Indianapolis, IN – Firefighter Injured Responding to Vacant Building Fire

Indianapolis, IN – A firefighter sustained an injury in the line of duty while responding to a fire in a vacant structure. 

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), the incident occurred at 2:06 PM at a boarded-up building located at 441 S Rural St. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke and fire in both the attic and basement, which they brought under control within 10 minutes.

During this swift and effective response, one firefighter injured his ankle and was transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment. The fire is currently under investigation to determine its cause. This incident underscores the risks firefighters face daily in protecting the community.
