Grand Junction, Colorado – Temperatures are set to drop sharply across western Colorado overnight, with readings nearing 27°F by early Wednesday morning—cold enough to damage crops, freeze exposed pipes, and impact early-season agriculture.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Freeze Watch is in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning across a լայն stretch of western Colorado and eastern Utah. Affected areas include the I-70 corridor from Rifle to Glenwood Springs, the Yampa River Basin near Craig and Meeker, and south into Montrose, Delta, and the Four Corners region, including Durango and Cortez.

Cold air settling into valleys will create the greatest risk, especially in low-lying agricultural zones and near river basins. Garden plants, budding fruit trees, and irrigation systems are particularly vulnerable during this window.

Residents are urged to cover sensitive vegetation, disconnect hoses, and insulate outdoor plumbing. Bringing pets indoors and protecting exposed irrigation systems could prevent costly damage.

The freeze threat will peak around sunrise Wednesday before temperatures gradually rebound later in the morning. Additional alerts could follow if colder air lingers into midweek.
