According to the National Weather Service in New York, today marks the warmest day of the year so far, with inland areas like Newark, White Plains, and New Brunswick climbing between 84 and 87 degrees. Even typically cooler spots like Central Park and JFK Airport are expected to reach the upper 70s to near 80.
The heat will be most noticeable away from the immediate coastline, where sea breezes are keeping places like Long Island and coastal Connecticut in the 60s and 70s. Still, cities including Yonkers, Paterson, and Stamford will feel more like early summer by mid-afternoon.
Officials warn that this early-season warmth can catch people off guard. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, take breaks if working outdoors, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, where temperatures can rise rapidly.
The unseasonable warmth will ease after sunset, but above-average temperatures are expected to linger into midweek, with additional updates possible if conditions shift.
