JOLIET, IL – An Illinois mother faced arrest after allegedly leaving her two children in a freezing car with a loaded gun, at a Target in Joliet.

According to police reports the incident occurred Friday evening when officers responded to the store on Plainfield Road to reportedly find a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old in an unheated car as temperatures hit 9 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill of -10 degrees.

Kadesha Clark, 29, returned to the car with Target purchases 15 minutes after officers arrived. Clark believed she had left the car running. A search reportedly revealed a loaded gun under the driver’s seat, which Clark allegedly owned without a FOID card or concealed carry license.

Clark has since been charged with child endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) took custody of the children, placing them with relatives.
