Authorities say a single-vehicle crash prompted a 911 call, with reports that two men allegedly attempted to leave the scene on foot. Upon arrival, deputies determined that Michael Richard Stodola, 44, of Clermont, was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested for public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. Investigators say William Durnan, 49, of Elgin, was allegedly operating the vehicle while intoxicated and was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, first offense, and failure to maintain control. Both men were transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for initial appearances. The sheriff’s office noted that the incident was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:18 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 4000 block of N Avenue in Stanley. Authorities located the vehicle in the 13000 block of 40th Street. Following an investigation, officials allege that the driver, Carter Thomas Nolan, 25, of Maynard, was intoxicated. Nolan was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence, third or subsequent offense, a felony. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
