Abilene, Texas – Storm chances are set to ramp up quickly across West Texas, with the most impactful round expected Tuesday night into early Wednesday, potentially disrupting travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, rain chances climb sharply Tuesday afternoon and peak overnight into Wednesday morning, with probabilities reaching 65 to 75 percent across Abilene, Sweetwater, and surrounding communities. Scattered thunderstorms could produce brief heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds during this window.

Cities including San Angelo, Brownwood, and Brady will also see increasing storm coverage, with rain chances ranging from 60 to 70 percent by Wednesday. While severe weather is not guaranteed, isolated stronger storms cannot be ruled out during peak activity.

Temperatures remain warm ahead of the system, with highs in the mid to upper 80s through Wednesday. By Thursday and Friday, conditions turn drier and stay warm before a cold front arrives heading into the weekend.

That front will bring cooler air, with highs dropping into the low to mid-70s by Saturday and Sunday, along with lingering low-end rain chances.

Residents should monitor updates and plan around storms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, when the highest impacts are expected.
