Tennessee – Rain taps on windshields and dark clouds hang low this afternoon as storms begin to develop across the Memphis metro.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms builds after midday, with highs near 84°F and southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph. Some storms may bring brief heavy rain and lightning, especially during the afternoon commute.

Across Memphis, Bartlett, and Southaven, drivers along I-40 and I-240 should expect slick pavement and sudden drops in visibility. Conditions may change quickly from dry to wet. Plan extra travel time and avoid hard braking during heavier downpours.

Storms gradually ease later into the evening, with quieter conditions returning into Tuesday. Sunshine takes over, pushing temperatures into the upper 80s by midweek. It will feel warmer and more humid, signaling a shift toward early summer conditions.

Meteorologists are now tracking another round of unsettled weather by Wednesday night into Thursday. A 40 to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms returns, potentially affecting both morning and evening travel windows Thursday.

By Friday, highs climb near 89°F under mostly sunny skies. That warmth could fuel additional scattered storms into the weekend, keeping the pattern active but not continuous.

Five Day Outlook for Memphis, Tennessee
Tuesday: High 87°F, mostly sunny
Wednesday: High 86°F, mostly sunny
Thursday: High 84°F, storms likely
Friday: High 89°F, mostly sunny
Saturday: High 85°F, storms possible
