Michigan – Water creeps higher along the Grand River this afternoon, while steady rain and gusty winds keep roads slick across Grand Rapids. Drivers are already seeing pooling water near low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Warning remains in effect for the Grand River near Comstock Park, where levels have reached around 12 feet. Minor flooding is ongoing, with water impacting areas along river-adjacent roads and trails.
Across Kent County and into Kalamazoo County, rain continues to fall in waves. Roads like US-131 and I-196 may see reduced visibility and standing water through the afternoon. Avoid driving through flooded roadways and allow extra travel time.
Storm chances increase into Tuesday, with an 80 to 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms by evening. Some storms may produce hail and damaging wind gusts. Heavy downpours could quickly worsen flooding, especially in already saturated areas.
By Wednesday, the pattern stays active with a 70 percent chance of rain and additional thunderstorms. Showers may linger into Thursday, keeping the ground saturated and rivers elevated. Meteorologists are tracking this stretch closely as multiple rounds of rain move through.
Temperatures remain mild, reaching the upper 70s before gradually cooling later in the week. By the weekend, highs drop sharply, with a much cooler feel settling in across western Michigan.
