Missouri – Wind brushes across open fields near Springfield this afternoon, carrying a warm, uneasy feel as clouds drift overhead. The setup is quiet for now, but the atmosphere is already shifting toward a more active stretch.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, gusty winds between 25 and 40 mph are expected, especially along and west of Highway 65, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms developing from Tuesday through the end of the week. Some areas could see repeated rainfall, raising localized flooding concerns.

Across Springfield, Nixa, and Ozark, drivers should prepare for changing conditions. Winds may push vehicles on exposed roads like US-65 and I-44, especially for trucks and SUVs. Secure loose outdoor items and use caution when traveling through open areas.

Storm chances begin to increase Tuesday afternoon, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The pattern intensifies by Wednesday, when rain chances jump to around 80 percent. Periods of heavier rain and lightning could disrupt travel and outdoor plans.

Meteorologists are watching this midweek window closely. Conditions may shift quickly as storms redevelop, and rainfall could add up where storms track repeatedly. Keep devices charged and check alerts before heading out.

Temperatures stay warm ahead of the storms, reaching the mid-80s Tuesday before cooling slightly into the mid-to-upper 70s Wednesday. Sunshine returns briefly Thursday with highs near the low 80s before additional storm chances return late week.
