Missouri–Kansas – Low clouds hang over Kansas City early this afternoon, and the air feels damp and restless as the next round of spring weather begins to organize. The quiet start will not last long.

According to the National Weather Service, an active weather pattern continues across northwest Missouri and eastern Kansas, with increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms into midweek and a growing risk for repeated rainfall events. Localized flooding remains possible where storms track over the same areas.

Across Kansas City, Overland Park, and Independence, roads like I-70, I-35, and US-69 could see changing conditions as early as Tuesday afternoon. Storm chances rise to around 40 percent, with gusty winds and brief downpours developing. Plan extra travel time and watch for slick pavement.

The more impactful window arrives Wednesday. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase to around 70 percent, and storms may become more widespread. Periods of heavier rain could reduce visibility and slow commutes, especially during the late afternoon and evening.

Temperatures help fuel this setup. Highs climb into the mid-80s Tuesday, creating a warm and humid environment. By Wednesday, highs settle closer to the upper 70s, but moisture remains high, allowing storms to persist.

Conditions begin to improve by Thursday with sunshine returning and highs near the low 80s. However, additional storm chances return late week into Friday, keeping the pattern unsettled.

Five Day Forecast for Kansas City, Missouri
Tuesday: High 85°F, chance of storms
Wednesday: High 78°F, storms likely
Thursday: High 83°F, sunny
Friday: High 82°F, storms likely
Saturday: High 62°F, cooler with rain chances
