Vermont – Wind is already whipping across Burlington this afternoon, bending tree branches and pushing rain across roadways as conditions turn unsettled fast. Visibility drops at times, and the combination of wind and wet pavement is creating immediate travel concerns.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected through the afternoon as rain tapers, with conditions strong enough to bring down a few branches or small trees. These gusts may also lead to isolated power outages, especially in exposed or elevated areas.

Across Burlington, South Burlington, and along Lake Champlain, drivers on I-89 and Route 7 should prepare for sudden crosswinds. High-profile vehicles will feel the strongest impact, particularly on bridges and open stretches. Keep both hands on the wheel and reduce speed when gusts peak.

Rain remains part of the story today, with showers continuing on and off. Roads may stay slick through the afternoon, especially where brief heavier bursts pass through. Plan extra time for travel and avoid unnecessary trips during stronger wind periods.

By Tuesday, storm chances increase again, with showers and possible thunderstorms developing later in the day. That unsettled pattern continues into Wednesday, with additional rain and storm chances returning.

Temperatures gradually climb, reaching the mid-60s Tuesday and upper 60s by Wednesday. Despite the warming trend, the repeated rain will keep conditions damp and unpredictable.
