Florida – Calm skies may fool beachgoers this afternoon, but powerful rip currents are creating dangerous conditions along the Miami coastline right now. What looks like a normal beach day can quickly turn hazardous within minutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a high rip current risk remains in effect through Tuesday evening for coastal Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. These currents can pull swimmers away from shore with little warning, even in areas that appear safe.
Beaches from Miami Beach to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach face the highest risk. Lifeguards strongly advise staying out of the water unless absolutely necessary. If you enter the ocean, stay near a lifeguard and avoid swimming alone.
If caught in a rip current, remain calm and do not swim against it. Float and swim parallel to shore until free, then return at an angle. Panic and fatigue are the biggest threats in these situations.
Away from the coast, Miami will see mostly sunny skies with breezy conditions and highs near 78°F today. Winds could gust up to 23 mph, especially near the shoreline. Temperatures hold steady near 79°F through midweek, then climb into the low 80s by Thursday and Friday under mostly sunny skies.
