Grand Island, NE – A record warm low temperature of 63 degrees was set April 12, marking unusually mild overnight conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the temperature at Central Nebraska Regional Airport only dropped to 63 degrees on Sunday, establishing a new record for the warmest low temperature recorded on that date.
The previous record was 58 degrees, which had been set in both 2023 and 1941. Officials confirmed the new mark surpasses that record by five degrees.
Warm overnight lows can signal persistent heat and limit nighttime cooling, which may impact comfort levels for residents without adequate cooling.
While no hazardous weather was reported, the record highlights an early-season stretch of above-average temperatures across parts of the region.
This temperature record may be of interest to students and local observers tracking climate and seasonal trends.
