Taholah, Washington – A burst of offshore earthquakes unfolded within a roughly 90-minute window Sunday afternoon, with the strongest registering a magnitude 3.6 about 129 miles west of the Washington coast at 12:25 p.m. UTC, raising attention across coastal monitoring networks.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, at least four measurable quakes struck between 12:25 p.m. and 1:57 p.m. UTC, all at a depth of 10.0 kilometers. The largest, a 3.6 magnitude event, occurred first, followed by two 2.8 magnitude tremors and a 3.1 magnitude quake roughly 270 kilometers west of Taholah.

The cluster remained offshore, limiting the likelihood of ground shaking impacts in populated areas like Aberdeen, Hoquiam, and coastal Grays Harbor County. No damage or injuries were reported, and USGS “Did You Feel It?” responses remained at zero as of the latest update.

Still, the rapid succession of quakes highlights ongoing tectonic movement along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a region capable of producing much larger seismic events. While these smaller quakes are common, clustered activity can draw closer monitoring from emergency management agencies.

Residents are encouraged to review earthquake preparedness plans, secure heavy items, and ensure mobile alerts are enabled. Additional seismic updates may follow if activity continues into Sunday evening.
