California – Rain taps steadily on rooftops and streaks across windshields this afternoon in San Francisco, where showers and isolated thunderstorms are already slowing traffic and reducing visibility along US-101 and I-280. Wet pavement and gusty winds are creating slick conditions, especially on elevated roadways and bridges. Plan extra time and keep headlights on.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances remain near 80% through the afternoon, with thunderstorms possible before activity tapers later today. Winds from the southwest are reaching 10 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph. Rainfall totals between a quarter and half inch are possible, especially in heavier bursts.

Across downtown San Francisco and surrounding neighborhoods like Daly City and South San Francisco, expect steady showers through mid-afternoon. Brief downpours could lead to minor ponding on streets and freeway ramps. Conditions may shift quickly, so keep an umbrella nearby and avoid sudden braking on slick roads.

By Monday, skies begin to clear and a calmer pattern takes hold. Sunshine returns with highs climbing into the mid-60s, offering a noticeable break from the damp start. Dry air and mild temperatures continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid-60s and cool nights near 50 degrees.

Looking ahead, a broader warming trend builds across California into late week, with inland areas pushing toward the upper 60s and low 70s. For now, improving conditions will support smoother travel and outdoor plans after today’s rain moves out.
