Springfield, Missouri – Rain will move in quickly Sunday morning, bringing soaking conditions across southern Missouri before a more dangerous round of storms develops by Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, rain chances climb to 60%–90% Sunday through the afternoon and early evening, with the heaviest coverage focused from Joplin to Springfield and into Rolla. While no severe weather or flooding is expected today, brief downpours and lightning could impact travel on Interstate 44 and surrounding roadways.

Attention then shifts to Tuesday after 5 p.m., when temperatures rising into the low to mid-80s will help fuel strong to severe thunderstorms across the Ozarks. Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes are all possible, though storm development remains conditional and may vary by location.

By Wednesday afternoon and evening, another round of storms could redevelop across much of southern and central Missouri, extending the risk window for severe weather and repeated rainfall.

Residents should monitor updates closely, especially for changing storm timing Tuesday evening. Additional alerts and possible warnings are expected as conditions evolve into midweek.
