Illinois–Iowa Weather Alert: Flood Warning Now With Rising Rivers Near Davenport and I-74 Corridor

Iowa and Illinois are entering a wet, unsettled stretch, and rising rivers are already signaling trouble as showers expand across the Quad Cities. Water levels are climbing, and roads near low-lying areas could become hazardous quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, rain will increase through the afternoon with embedded thunderstorms possible. A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt, where moderate flooding is ongoing and expected to continue through midweek.

Highs reach near 73°F today, but breezy conditions with gusts up to 35 mph will make travel along I-74 and I-80 more challenging. Showers and storms will develop through the afternoon, reducing visibility and creating slick pavement. Plan extra time and avoid flooded roadways.

Rain intensifies into the evening, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some areas could see heavier rainfall totals, increasing runoff into already swollen rivers. Never drive through water-covered roads—conditions can change fast.

Monday offers a brief break with only a 20% chance of storms, but the atmosphere remains unstable. By Monday night, storm chances return, setting up a more active period.

Tuesday is a key concern, with highs near 83°F and a 60–70% chance of storms. Meteorologists are monitoring the potential for stronger storms and heavier rain, which could worsen flooding issues across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

The unsettled pattern continues into Wednesday, with rain chances up to 70%. Repeated rainfall may push rivers higher and impact neighborhoods near waterways.

Looking ahead, conditions may briefly improve late week, but additional rain chances return. Stay alert and keep an eye on river levels. Are you seeing high water or flooded roads near your area?
