New York’s Capital Region is starting cold enough for a biting chill, but a quick shift to wet, breezy conditions will change road conditions by late day. Pavement may start dry, but that won’t last long as clouds thicken and showers move in.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, temperatures rise to 57°F today with increasing clouds, followed by a 50% chance of showers tonight. Winds could gust up to 30 mph, especially along I-87 and I-90 corridors.

By Monday, rain becomes more widespread and impactful. Showers are likely after midday with a 60% chance and gusts reaching 34 mph. Expect reduced visibility and slick travel during the afternoon commute, particularly through Albany, Troy, and Schenectady.

Tuesday brings a warmer but more unstable setup. Highs climb to 78°F, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 2 p.m. Brief downpours could flood low-lying roads and slow traffic quickly.

Rain chances continue into Tuesday night and Wednesday, each carrying around a 40% to 50% chance of showers. Repeated wet periods may lead to ponding on roads and slower travel across the region.

Drivers should stay alert for changing conditions, especially during heavier bursts of rain. Early mornings may still hover near freezing, raising a low-end risk for slick spots where moisture lingers.

Looking ahead, temperatures remain above normal into late week, signaling a steady move deeper into spring. Traveling Monday or Tuesday? Watch for sudden changes and share what you’re seeing on the roads.
