Pendleton, OR – Rain will begin impacting travel early Sunday morning across eastern Oregon, with wet roads and reduced visibility developing in time for the morning drive.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, showers will spread northward starting around 6 a.m. Sunday, continuing through the afternoon. Rainfall totals will range from 0.10 to 0.25 inches in mountain and higher elevation areas, while lower elevations including Pendleton, Hermiston, and La Grande may see lighter amounts closer to a few hundredths of an inch.
Roadways including I-84 and U.S. Route 395 could become slick, especially during steadier bursts of rain late morning into early afternoon. In higher terrain such as the Blue Mountains, the added moisture may create patchy fog and reduced visibility below 1 mile at times.
Temperatures will also take a noticeable dip compared to Saturday, with highs only reaching the upper 50s to low 60s across much of the region. The cooler air and cloud cover will limit drying, keeping surfaces damp through much of the day.
Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads, increase following distance, and watch for changing visibility in elevated areas. The unsettled pattern may linger into early next week, with additional updates possible if rainfall becomes more widespread.
