Pueblo, CO – Fire danger will escalate quickly across southern Colorado by late Monday morning, with powerful winds and critically dry air creating conditions where fires can spread rapidly within minutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday for much of southern Colorado, including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Trinidad, and surrounding plains and foothill areas. Southwest winds are expected to gust up to 45 mph, while humidity levels drop between 9 and 15 percent.
Communities along the I-25 corridor face heightened risk, especially in areas with dry grasses and vegetation. Any ignition—whether from equipment, vehicles, or discarded cigarettes—could lead to fast-moving fires that are difficult to contain.
Officials urge residents to avoid all outdoor burning and any activity that could produce sparks. Do not park vehicles on dry grass, and ensure trailer chains are secured to prevent roadside ignitions.
This critical fire threat will persist through Monday evening, with conditions expected to ease after sunset. Additional warnings may be issued if winds strengthen or humidity drops further.
