Raleigh, NC – Temperatures are set to surge across North Carolina over the next 48 hours, with heat intensifying quickly and pushing highs into the 90s by midweek, raising concerns for drought and heat-related stress.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs will climb from the upper 70s and low 80s today into the upper 80s by Tuesday, then peak in the low to mid-90s from Wednesday through the weekend. The Triangle region, including Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, is expected to see some of the warmest conditions, with little overnight relief as lows remain in the upper 60s to low 70s.

The extended stretch of dry weather is compounding the issue, with no measurable rainfall expected through the weekend. Soil moisture will continue to drop, increasing stress on vegetation and worsening drought conditions across central North Carolina.

Cities including Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Rocky Mount will also see consistent heat, with afternoon sun pushing pavement temperatures well above air temperatures. ენერგ demand may rise as cooling use increases statewide.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. This prolonged heat pattern will persist into the weekend, with potential for record highs and additional advisories as temperatures continue to climb.
