Gaylord, MI – Heavy rain is already moving into Northern Michigan, with the most widespread impacts developing today and tonight as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms increase the risk of flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, rainfall totals exceeding 1 inch are likely across much of the region through midweek, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The heaviest rain will fall in waves, first through tonight, then again Monday night, and once more Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Communities across the Tip of the Mitt, including Petoskey, Gaylord, Alpena, and Traverse City, could see rising water levels as rain combines with ongoing snowmelt. Rivers and low-lying areas, especially near eastern Upper Michigan and along I-75 corridors, are most vulnerable to localized flooding.

Drivers should prepare for ponding on roadways and reduced visibility during heavier downpours. Rural and low-lying roads may become difficult to pass if water levels rise quickly.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, clear storm drains where possible, and avoid driving through flooded roads. The unsettled pattern will persist through Wednesday, with additional advisories likely if rainfall totals increase.

Five Day Forecast for Gaylord, Michigan:
Sunday: 45–71°F, heavy rain at times with thunderstorms
Monday: 49–69°F, scattered showers
Tuesday: 49–74°F, scattered showers
Wednesday: 49–67°F, steady rain likely
