Buffalo, NY – A chilly start is quickly giving way to milder temperatures across Western New York, but drivers should prepare for scattered showers developing later this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, temperatures will rise into the 60s across much of Western New York by mid to late afternoon, while areas east of Lake Ontario remain cooler in the 50s. Clouds will continue to thicken through the morning, with the best chance for showers arriving after 2 p.m.

Rain will be most likely north of the New York State Thruway, including Niagara Falls, Lockport, and Watertown, where precipitation chances climb to around 40 to 60 percent. Buffalo, Rochester, and surrounding communities may see only spotty showers, but damp roads are still possible during peak travel hours.

Roadways including I-90 and I-190 could become slick in areas that see brief rainfall, with visibility reductions under heavier showers.

Residents should plan for changing conditions this afternoon and allow extra travel time where rain develops. The warming trend will continue into the week, with additional chances for showers returning in the coming days.
