Austin, TX – Storms are already developing across South Central Texas this morning, with heavy rain and the potential for strong storms expected to intensify through the afternoon, raising concerns for roadway flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, rain chances range from 30 to 70 percent across the region today, with the highest coverage expected from late morning through the afternoon. Some storms could produce strong wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall capable of flooding low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Cities along the I-35 corridor, including Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, and New Braunfels, may see repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall could overwhelm drainage systems in urban areas, leading to ponding on roads and hazardous driving conditions, especially during peak travel times.

Southerly winds between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, may accompany storms and reduce visibility during heavier downpours. Areas west toward Del Rio and Uvalde could also see strong storms develop with brief intense rainfall.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and allow extra travel time. Residents should monitor alerts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

Storm chances will continue through the week, with additional rounds of rain possible and further advisories likely if flooding concerns increase.
