New York State – Bright sun and a crisp breeze are setting the tone today, but a fast warmup is already building toward a near-summer surge by Tuesday afternoon. Sidewalks are dry, skies are clear, and visibility stretches for miles across the city. That calm start won’t last long as temperatures climb sharply over the next 48 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, New York City will rise from the upper 50s today to near 76°F Monday, then surge to 82°F Tuesday and 88°F by Wednesday. A slight 20 percent chance of showers develops after 2 p.m. Monday, with southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph, especially along exposed roadways like the FDR Drive and I-95 corridors.

Across the metro, drivers should plan for changing road conditions Monday afternoon as brief showers move through. Wet pavement could reduce visibility and increase braking distance during the evening commute. Keep headlights on and allow extra space between vehicles.

By Tuesday, the air turns noticeably warmer and more humid. Parks from Central Park to Prospect Park will fill quickly as conditions feel closer to early summer than mid-April. Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat.

Wednesday brings the peak warmth, but clouds build late with a 30 percent chance of showers between evening and midnight. That could disrupt late travel and create slick roads into the night. Keep devices charged in case of isolated outages.

Looking ahead, above-normal temperatures continue into late week, reinforcing a steady spring pattern. More updates may follow as midweek rain chances evolve.

Five Day Outlook for New York City, New York:
Today: Sunny, high near 57°F
Monday: Mostly cloudy, 20% chance of showers after 2 p.m., high 76°F
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 82°F
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 88°F, 30% chance of showers late
Thursday: Partly sunny, high 86°F
