Cheyenne, Wyoming – Cooler air will settle across Wyoming by Thursday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures along with increasing chances for rain, wind, and mountain snow through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, Wyoming is in a 40 to 50 percent probability zone for below-normal temperatures from April 16 through April 20, along with a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal precipitation. A broad western trough will drive cooler, unsettled weather across the Rockies and High Plains.

In Cheyenne and across Laramie County, highs are expected to range from 55 to 62°F during the afternoon, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. Along the I-80 corridor from Laramie to Rawlins, gusty winds could reach 30 to 40 mph at times, creating difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Casper and central Wyoming will see similar highs in the upper 50s, while Jackson and western valleys trend cooler with highs in the low to mid-50s. In higher elevations, including the Tetons and Wind River Range, periods of snow are likely, particularly during overnight hours.

The precipitation outlook shows a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal moisture, with a mix of valley rain and mountain snow expected between April 18 and April 22. Localized heavier bursts could reduce visibility along mountain passes.

Residents should prepare for cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and changing travel conditions. Drivers should use caution on I-25 and I-80, especially during periods of strong wind or precipitation.

This cooler, unsettled pattern is expected to persist through April 20, with additional advisories likely as systems continue moving through the region into early next week.
